This front yard in a Canyon Lake neighborhood needed off street parking, a walkway to the front door and a way to drain all the water coming off the hill.  We decided to come up with a creative way to do all three and make an elegant and functional entry to the house for both cars and people.

We started by creating not just a walkway but a mortared flagstone landing off the driveway that will also be handicap accessible.  We built chopped limestone walls and borders to help move the water off the hill in the direction we wanted rather than straight down to the house.  These walls and borders were highlighted with colorful river rock and deer resistant plantings up by the stone landing.  The heavy chopped stone help to create the needed elevation for the off street parking area we created using stabilized base.   We also added stabilized base to the already existing but somewhat rutted road base driveway and then added large crushed limestone to the areas next to the house to help with drainage and prevent more ruts.

The addition of a swath of Zoysia grass in the middle of this adds one more way to move the water coming off the slope and also adds a soothing green oasis among what could have been too much hardscape in a small space.  The overall effect is one of clean lines and solid functionality mixed with curbside charm and creativity.  Call us today for your free landscaping analysis!
